In view of the vast research conducted by the scholars in recent years new facts have come to light about the advanced stage of the ancient Indian political institutions, culture and the period of Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire. As a result, most of the books written by earlier European scholars have become out-dated and give only a distorted version of the facts. On the other hand, some of the Indian scholars have tried to glorify the ancient Indian institutions, culture and Muslim and Mughal rule in India. An impartial student of history must guard against both these extremes and make a dispassionate study of the history upto 1760 A.D. Though number of books are available on this period, these books are deficient to the extent that they deal with the political history alone and neglect the social, economic and cultural aspects of the life of people during this period. In this volume the author has tried to provide a detailed study of the political history of the period as well as the social, economic and cultural aspects of life. This would enable the readers to acquire a full of the history of the period. The author has tried to present the facts of history in a manner which would give a fairly good idea about the history of India. This book is primary meant for the students of B.A. (Hons.), M.A. and various competitive examinations, offering History as a subject. The author has consulted most of the standard works on the subject and tried to present the facts in lucid form for the benefit of the students. Lay readers interested in acquiring an insight into the glorious past of India shall also find the reading quite useful and informative.
