William Wordsworth AN EVALUATION OF HIS POETRY Shakti Batra William Wordsworth's poetry, says H.W. Garrod, is essentially “mystical”. But whereas the mysticism of other men consists mainly in their effort to escape from the senses, of mysticism of Wordsworth is grounded and rooted, actually, in the senses. It is hard to find a last word on the achievement of Wordsworth as a poet, says Helen Darbishire. Yet the present critical study evaluates his most notable poems by applying his theory of poetry and presenting them to students in our universities in a clear, simple manner so as to understand the working or growth of the poet's mind. Wordsworth lyrics, sonnets and odes to illustrate his poetry of Man and Nature. The first of the Romantics, Wordsworth worshipped at the altar of Nature and brought to us his soul-elevating poetry that remains unparalleled as it establishes the inter-relationship between Man and Nature.
