Ernest Hemingway's first novel The Sun Also Rises portrays the disenchantment of the Lost Generation in the aftermath of world war I. It is acclaimed to be his best work besides the 1952 classic, The Old Man and the Sea. Based on his own experiences among expatriates in Paris in the early 1920s, The Sun Also Rises depicts the loss of traditional values and the aimlessness of his generation of writers and artists.
The present critical study captures the desperate gaiety and directionless of the post war generation through Jake Barnes and his group of friends and acquaintances as they make the rounds of bars in Paris and resorts in Spain. It explores and analyzes the text in addition to tackling a number of critical and textual problems associated with it from the point of view of examination requirements of university students.
