In view of the vast research conducted by the scholars in recent years new facts have come to light about the advanced stage of the ancient Indian political institutions and culture. As a result, most of the books written by earlier European scholars have become out-dated and give only a distorted version of the facts. On the other hand, some of the Indian scholars have tried to glorify the ancient Indian institutions and culture. An impartial student of history must guard against both these extremes and make a dispassionate study of the history of ancient India. The author has tried to present the facts of history in a dispassionate manner which would give a fairly good idea about the history of ancient India. This book is primarily meant for the students of B.A. (Hons.) M.A., and various competitive examinations offering History as a subject. The author has consulted most of the standard works on the subject and tried to present the facts in lucid form for the benefit of the students. Lay readers interested in acquiring an insight into the glorious past of India shall also find the reading quite useful and informative.
