Joseph Conrad had travelled to various parts of the world in his career as a sailor. His writings record his impressions of the voyages he had undertaken as an explorer, such as his celebrated Heart of Darkness which is an account of Marlow’s voyage to the Congo in the 1890s. His voyages to the Far-East, particularly the Malay archipelago resulted in The Eastern Stories, of which The Secret Sharer, a moving tale of compassion, is prominent. The present work seeks to examine and analyse the story from various angles for the benefit of students in our universities along with a definitive text.
