One of the most popular plays of Eugene O’Neill. The Emperor Jones is totally different in both feeling and form. It dealt with primitive terror and superstition and describes the story of a Negro adventurer who came to accept his defeat crushed under his own atavistic memories. It’s ending is very powerful, not simple love story. An experimental drama in which Jones used sustained monologues and the physical presence of ghosts on stage, both consequences of the fevered imagination of the protagonist. How the racial unconscious manifests itself effectively in the lives of human beings, especially when he faces tense moments has been described successfully in the play. The present critical study seeks to analyze and examine the multi-layered text in all aspects to make it more accessible to students in our universities.
