Julius Ceasar is not a conventional History Play of Shakespeare. It is a straight forward dramatisation of a period of history which has been preserved in prose. Shakespeare has woven the acts and exues of Ceasar, Brufus and Mark Antony to the central situation of the story, and has arranged minor events around it. Unlike Plutarch, Shakespeare has contrived the in pression of ratrid time and continuous action in the play. Julius Ceaser is a play that stands dramatically and poetically so high that it just falls short of the supreme rank which learand Othello, Hamlet and Macbeth claim for themselves. Prof. Ramji Lall's compreh ensive and well researched exposition of the play eminently suits the examination requirements of our university students, It examines and assesses the play from all angles, providing cagrions notes and explanations along with a paraphrase of the text.
